The main purpose of the thesis is to analyze the relationship between Green firms and capital markets. We start showing the growth of Green Investing in the world describing the main worldwide Green stock exchange indices and the principal funds of Green Economy field. Then we focalized on the italian scene with an empirical analysis of Corporate Governance systems of Italian firms in the years 2009, 2010 and 2011; the aim of this analysis is to underline the growing attention these companies pay to capital markets, which means high performance and significant improvements in Corporate Governance systems that highlight more attention to financial markets. In the last part of the work we have shown the advantages and the motivations that justify the born of a stock exchange Green index also in Italian market; in the final part furthermore we present a possible Green index and we justify its creation also showing his return that, calculated with a back test, has turned out to be better than the outcome of other existing index.
La tesi si propone di analizzare il rapporto tra le imprese Green e il mercato dei capitali. Iniziamo la trattazione mostrando la crescita del Green Investing nel mondo tramite la descrizione dei principali indici Green quotati sui mercati borsistici mondiali e dei maggiori fondi di investimento dedicati al settore “Green Economy”. Successivamente ci si è focalizzati sul panorama italiano analizzando, tramite un’analisi empirica svolta con dati rilevati agli anni 2009, 2010 e 2011, i sistemi di Corporate Governance adottati da un campione di imprese Green italiane. L’obiettivo dell’analisi empirica è stato quello di evidenziare la maggiore attenzione rivolta da queste imprese verso i capital markets identificabile con le elevate performance e con i rilevanti miglioramenti ottenuti in termini di Corporate Governance, i quali dimostrano il crescente interesse di queste società verso il mercato finanziario. Nell’ultima parte del lavoro di tesi sono stati evidenziati i vantaggi, le spinte e le motivazioni che giustificano l’introduzione di un indice quotato borsistico dedicato al mondo Green anche nel mercato italiano; nella parte finale inoltre è stata presentata una proposta di indice Green per il mercato italiano legittimando la sua creazione con l’analisi del rendimento che, calcolato tramite un back test, è risultato essere migliore rispetto a quello ottenuto da altri indici borsistici già esistenti.
