Nowadays, China has been well known by its rapid urbanization and modernization, in the same time, the huge gap - a big unbalance between its powerful economic status and social, environmental status has been recognized and discussed. Many food scandals have been exposed widely in the recent years, the emerged food security becomes the top one crucial social issue. Urban citizens are in an anxiety worries about food safety. The awareness of demanding quality and reliable food raised up immediately, while people started to change their food consumption behaviors. In this background, the model of urban farming in small scale can be introduced in high density cities in China like Shanghai. With the collaboration between citizens, a sustainable urban food production can be realized. The service design has been proposed based on desk research and field research in China. Desk research focused on different urban farming model globally has been made in order to understand the on-going trends in the field of urban agriculture and general model of urban farming cases. An analysis structure frame has been created to visualize all the components of the cases. On field research and interviews have been done to achieve a deep understanding on Chinese context, through that to get the insight of Chinese citizens’ needs, their behaviors and the actual status of residential block in Shanghai. The product-service-system Neighbor veggies has been introduced to apply on any residential block in Shanghai. It is an urban farming service that specifically can be applied in high density cities in China like Shanghai. With the collaboration between service providers and the property agency from each residential block, the service provides the solution for urban dwellers who want to produce vegetables in a residential urban context by using vacant rooftop space. The PSS has two main components: a physical toolkit and a virtual platform. The physical toolkit offers all necessary planting materials to individual cultivators, it also provider facilities in communal touch points. The virtual platform is used to connect individuals and enable the cultivation in a collaborative way. Aiming to generate a synergy of local food production based on networking and collaboration, Neighbor veggies can be considered as the first practice to engage the local community, and re-enforce the strength of social fabric. This model can be duplicated in every residential block in Shanghai even in China. However, this project is limited by long-distance observation and the capability of applying quantitative research tools. Due to the time limitation, a complete prototyping on field will be improved in the further steps.
Oggi, la Cina è impressionato per la sua rapida urbanizzazione e modernizzazione, nello stesso tempo, è nato un enorme divario - un grande squilibrio tra la sua potente status economico e sociale. Lo stato ambientale è stato riconosciuto e discusso sempre. Molti scandali alimentari sono stati esposti ampiamente negli ulitimi anni, la sicurezza alimentare diventa la parte superiore nel problema sociale e fonfamentale. Gli abitant della città sara in una preoccupazione ansiosa per la sicurezza dei cibi. La consapevolezza del esigente su cibo con qualità sta crescendo immediatamente, metre la genta inizia a cambiare i loro comportamenti di consumo alimentare. Con questo contesto, il modello di agricoltura urbana a piccola scala può essere introdotto nelle città ad alta densità in Cina come Shanghai. Con la collaborazione tra i cittadini, una produzione alimentare sostenibile può essere realizzato. Il design di servizio progettazione è stato proposto sulla base di ricerche documentali e di ricerca sul campo in Cina. La ricerca documente su diversi modelli di agricoltura urbana è stato fatto a livello globale, per comprendere la tendenza in corso idi agricultura urbana con i casi generali. Sulla ricerca e interviste sul campo sono stati fatti per capire una comprensione profonda del contesto cinese., attraverso quella di ottenere i bisogni dei cittadini cinesi, i loror comportamenti e lo stato effettivo della residenza a Shanghai. Le verdure di vicini (Neighbor veggies) e’ in un Design del Prodotto Sistem, è stato introdotto da applicare sulle residenze a Shanghai. Si tratta di un servizio di agricoltura urbana che specificamente può uusare nelle città ad alta densità in Cina come Shanghai. Con la cooperazione tra i fornitori di servizi e l'agenzia di proprietà di ogni locale, il servizio può offrire una soluzione per gli abitanti delle città che desiderano produrre le loro verdure in un contesto urbano residenziale, utilizzando lo spazio sul tetto vacante. Il PSS ha due componenti principali: un toolkit fisico e una piattaforma virtuale. Il toolkit fisico offre tutti i materiali di impianto necessarie per i coltivatori singoli, ma anche i servizi di provider di punti di contatto comunali. La piattaforma virtuale è utilizzata per connettere la gentale e consentire la coltivazione in modo collaborativo. Con l'obiettivo di creare una sinergia di produzione di cibo locale a base di networking e collaborazione, Le verdure di vicini (Neighbor veggies) può essere considerato come il primo tappa di coinvolgere la comunità locale, e rafforzare la comunità sociale. Questo modello può essere duplicato in ogni residenza a Shanghai, anche in Cina. Comimque, questo progetto è limitata dalla osservazione a lunga distanza e la capacità di applicare strumenti di ricerca quantitativi.
