The present work concerns functional data analysis. In particular, it addresses the problem of data registration in presence of phase variability. The algorithm used to treat the datasets is the k-mean alignment, a method for continuous registration and clustering. This method is applied to a set of data concerning the study of the movements of a juggler (Juggling dataset) and to another set of data related to the study of acute myeloid leukemia (Proteomics dataset). Taking inspiration from the works of A. Srivastava, a variant of the k-mean alignment algorithm using a different notion of distance between functions is then formulated. A method of local alignment is also defined: in this algorithm, the calculation of similarity between functions only considers local regions of the curves. Finally, the notion of similarity is extended to functions defined on R2 and new groups of warping functions acting on two-dimensional abscissas are defined. In this way we obtain an algorithm valid also for surface alignment.

Abstract
In this way we obtain an algorithm valid also for surface alignment.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
