Micropitting is a contact fatigue wear phenomenon which occurs in a combined rolling and sliding contacts. Micropitting can be regarded as a fatigue failure in which an amount of crack exist close to the surface. From the FZG machine, the information about micro pitting can be obtained which are critical failure limits of the surface which are highly influenced by the lubrication system. In this thesis the Micropitting has been investigated using the two-disk test rig which is a standard method for evaluating the micropitting load capacity of gears. The tests are performed in different load stages with a rotational velocity of 2000 rpm. The analysis include the roughness test and the mass loss. Besides the analysis are provided by the SEM images of the specimens. A comparison between the standard steel 18NiCrMo5, 18NiCrMo5 with coating and innovative materials such as Jomasco and Metasco has been established.
