This thesis provides an account of the state of the art of electric mobility, focusing especially on its key components: the electric car and the related charging infrastructure. This subject is rather relevant since nowadays can be observed an important ferment around electric mobility that could lead, most likely, to a real revolution of the mobility paradigm over the next twenty years. To this purpose it was first performed a critical analysis of the context, describing the situation, both past and present, in order to identify which drivers make the present moment ready for the development of this new paradigm of mobility. Then, it has been examined, via the analysis of the scientific literature, which is the technological state of the art of the electric vehicles (and therefore of the batteries) and of the charging infrastructure technologies. It has been analyzed which could be the potential impact of the spread of this new form of mobility on the national system as a whole and on the individual citizens from both an environmental and an economical perspective. Therefore, it has been interpreted critically which is the actual situation of the electric mobility market, providing a specific focus on the European and Italian reality. The result of the analysis shows the identification of a vicious circle that has been paralyzing the development and the diffusion of this new paradigm of mobility so far. In this context, it has also been identified the possible enabling factors that could boost the market both in a short and in a long-term perspective, reporting, through the analysis of specific literature, some scenarios that might come up to become reality in the future. In particular, it has been performed a detailed analysis on the panorama of the Italian situation, by identifying the main actors of this new mobility system and by analyzing the as-is situation of the various Italian cities in relation to the possible future scenarios. In order to do this, it has been conducted simulations, analysis and interviews getting, therefore, a concise and detailed overview of which are the critical issues, the dynamics and perspectives of the electric mobility in Italy.
Con il presente lavoro di tesi si è voluto analizzare lo stato dell’arte della mobilità elettrica focalizzandosi in particolar modo sui suoi protagonisti principali, ossia le auto elettriche e le relative infrastrutture di ricarica. A tal scopo si è effettuato innanzitutto uno studio del contesto di riferimento, in cui si è fotografata la situazione, sia passata che presente, al fine di individuare quali driver fanno in modo che il momento attuale possa considerarsi maturo per lo sviluppo di questo nuovo paradigma di mobilità. Successivamente si è esaminato, tramite l’analisi della letteratura scientifica, quale sia il grado di sviluppo delle tecnologie relative sia ai veicoli elettrici (e quindi alle batterie) sia alle infrastrutture di ricarica. Si è valutato quale potrebbe essere il potenziale impatto del diffondersi di questa nuova forma di mobilità sia a livello ambientale che economico, per quanto riguarda sia il singolo cittadino che il sistema Paese nel suo complesso. Si è, quindi, cercato di interpretare in maniera critica quale sia l’effettiva situazione di mercato della mobilità elettrica in ottica globale con un focus specifico sulla realtà europea ed italiana. Il risultato dell’analisi è stato l’individuazione di un circolo vizioso che ha paralizzato finora lo sviluppo e la diffusione di questo nuovo paradigma di mobilità. In tale ambito si sono fatte anche delle considerazioni sui possibili fattori abilitanti che potrebbero dare impulso al mercato sia in ottica di breve che di lungo periodo, riportando, tramite l’analisi della letteratura specifica, alcuni scenari che potrebbero venire a concretizzarsi in futuro. Nello specifico, si è svolto uno studio più approfondito di quale sia il panorama della situazione italiana, enucleando i principali attori di questo nuovo modello di mobilità ed analizzando la situazione as-is delle varie realtà italiane in relazione ai possibili sviluppi di mercato che si verranno a determinare. Per far ciò si sono svolte simulazioni, analisi ed interviste ottenendo, quindi, un quadro sintetico e dettagliato di quali siano le criticità, le dinamiche e le prospettive del mercato della mobilità elettrica in Italia.
