Statistical methods are of undoubted importance for the study of rarefied gases. The Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method (DSMC) is one of the most widely used tools in the study of such systems. The thesis aims at studying the importance of using phenomenological models able to keep track of the internal energy associated with diatomic molecules, to incorporate them to the DSMC simulations. The study includes the development of an algorithm and comparison of the numerical data with some experimental measurements. Empirical data are related to the exchange of heat between different surfaces, flat and cylindrical, maintained at different temperatures and separated by a rarefied gas.

Abstract
Statistical methods are of undoubted importance for the study of rarefied gases. The Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method (DSMC) is one of the most widely used tools in the study of such systems. The thesis aims at studying the importance of using phenomenological models able to keep track of the internal energy associated with diatomic molecules, to incorporate them to the DSMC simulations. The study includes the development of an algorithm and comparison of the numerical data with some experimental measurements. Empirical data are related to the exchange of heat between different surfaces, flat and cylindrical, maintained at different temperatures and separated by a rarefied gas.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
