The objective of this work is the analysis of residual strains accumulated by special specimens of γ-TiAl alloy, Ti-48Al-2NB-2Cr made via Electron Beam Melting (EBM) and subjected to static, quasi-static and fatigue tensile experiments. The map of residual strains is obtained through the use of Digital Image Correlation (DIC), technique applied for the first time to the analysis of intermetallic alloys at the Politecnico di Milano. This work aims to provide a detailed procedure for the implementation of the DIC applied on gamma-TiAl alloys and, with regard to these, established if special relationships exist between material microstructure and heterogeneous distribution of residual strain. First chapter describes DIC analysis technique and the main mechanical properties of TiAl alloys, with particular reference to γ-TiAl, based on a critical analysis of the literature on this topics. The second chapter concerns with the performed experiments carried out, with particular remarks on the necessary operations for a successfull conduction of the Ex DIC, in relation to the instrumentation available at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. The third chapter presents a critical analysis of the results, while in the fourth considerations are presented, in respect to the behavior observed during the analysis and the duplex microstructure characterizing the analyzed alloy.

Abstract
The third chapter presents a critical analysis of the results, while in the fourth considerations are presented, in respect to the behavior observed during the analysis and the duplex microstructure characterizing the analyzed alloy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
