Throughout a designing proposal developed under the supervision of the Spanish architect Alberto Campo Baeza, this work has the purpose of contributing to the debate concerning library and its future. Even if the debate about book digitalization and the future of the library is a timed debate, our study takes its premises (and there it finds the reason of its contemporaneity) through the understanding of its nowadays condition: the technological development made real a future that just few year ago seemed far away. The first part of the research is focused on the development that libraries had in the last years, underlining which elements of the historical typology “permangono” in the contemporary library, and which evolutions modified completely the structure. Among these evolutions, the attention is drawn to the evolution of the complementary space, through a journey across the most recent examples, starting from the Seattle Library by Rem Koolhaas, to the Rolex Center by the office SANAA. The second part is focused on the potential implications of the digital conversion of the libraries, both regarding the personal experience (about reading and therefore learning) and regarding a larger scale (about preservation and access to knowledge) introducing suggestions of what it could become the library of the future. In the third part it is introduced an aspect that characterized more and more the library in the last years: its role as a place of sociability. The analysis of the Idea Stores shows this aspect gained with an interesting and ambitious experience. In the fourth part, concluding the research, we propose some considerations, that take place in the debate about the future of the library, eventually formalised in a design proposal (introduced describing its context, genesis and development). This research has the purpose of contributing to the architectonic research of a new model of library, starting from the recent development and analysing the perspectives, verifying its effectiveness through a designing practice.

Abstract
This research has the purpose of contributing to the architectonic research of a new model of library, starting from the recent development and analysing the perspectives, verifying its effectiveness through a designing practice.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
