Un progetto per l'ex scalo ferroviario di Porta Romana

<<Quando lavoro penso al presente. Penso all'oggi avendo dietro il passato.>> The purpose of this study is drawing the form of a building by recognizing architecture as a work dealing with forms. The issue of form in architecture is more than personal taste. It contains the collectivity and continuity. Therefore, the form of architecture should not be arbitrarily determined by an architect. Instead, it should be found by long study on the principles of architecture and the transformation process of the principles. In such sense, the history of architecture is not a banal old story which should be expelled. Instead, it becomes the source, in which the continuing general principles transcending time can be studied. When we express the principles by way of a form which is more proper to the present situation, we can talk about the newness with base which is not just a fashion. Place and theme are the most basic elements in finding the form of architecture. The character of a place becomes concrete by the construction system which was formed and shared by many buildings in the history. An architectural plan should be recognized as a part of this construction system and it should proceed toward the direction of reinforcing or improving the construction system. The theme in architecture is an issue that defines the general character of activities occurring in the building. Therefore, the theme deals with the issue of form and space different from function. The basic character of a planned building is determined by formative definition of space, in which the activities go on. The combined recognition of these two elements is a prerequisite in drawing the form as a result, but not as a purpose. This study is an attempt to develop this thought by way of actual places and themes. The form of final planning is the sense of place held by L'ex Scalo ferroviario di Porta Romana and the result of study on the theme of the library and train station to be built in it.

Penso all'oggi avendo dietro il passato.>> Questa tesi considera l'architettura come questione della forma e mira a svolgere un lavoro da cui si può dedurre una forma dell'edificio. In architettura la questione della forma implica il problema della collettività e la durabilità oltre a quello del gusto personale. L'architetto non può scegliere la forma dell'edificio a piacimento, ma essa va trovata attraverso una lunga analisi sul principio dell'architettura e sul suo processo di trasformazione. In questo senso, la storia dell'architettura non è una storia scontata e usuale, ma una fonte da cui possiamo trovare il principio che trascende il tempo. Possiamo menzionare la novità fondata e verificabile solo quando si concreta il principio duraturo nella storia con una forma più nuova e adatta alla situazione di oggi. Il luogo e il tema sono due elementi fondamentali per trovare una forma ragionevole. Il carattere del luogo si rivela attraverso il sistema costruttivo formato e condiviso fra diversi edifici nella storia. Il progetto di architettura va inteso come parte di questo sistema costruttivo e si deve procedere in modo da migliorare o aumentare il suo valore. Diversamente dalla funzione, che riguarda solo l'attività che si svolge nell'edificio, il tema riguarda la relazione reciproca fra l'attività e lo spazio. Il tema è una questione di definizione formale dell'attività. Il carattere generale dell'edificio si decide da questa definizione. Il riconoscimento complesso di questi due elementi, il luogo e il tema, è una precondizione per dedurre una forma come risultato, non come fine. Questa tesi è un tentativo di svolgere la suddetta idea attraverso un luogo e temi concreti. La forma finale del progetto è il risultato dell'analisi sul carattere dell'ex Scalo ferroviario di Porta Romana e dei temi della biblioteca e la stazione.
