The regenerative instability phenomenon (also called chatter) that may appear during the cutting process, can adversely affect the productivity and the surface quality of the products. This work presents the numerical reproduction of the chatter and controlling of the mentioned instability by use of two special techniques: the sinusoidal spindle speed variation (S3V) and the spindle speed regulation (SST). In this work, the process that has been considered is the milling process and it has been developed a control algorithm in state machine language, focusing especially on the S3V automatic parameters handling. The chatter diagnosis and the chatter frequency estimation are carried out by a syncronous harmonics fitting technique, taken from literature. The validation of the overall control approach has been performed by numerical simulations based on a dynamic milling model. This model has been calibrated with a series of experimental tests carried out at constant speed and sinusoidally variated speed.

Abstract
This model has been calibrated with a series of experimental tests carried out at constant speed and sinusoidally variated speed.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
