In order to maintain the high level of comfort that drivers expect from vehicles and still maintain the high safety standards of automobiles, suspension designers have been forced to look beyond conventional passive suspension systems. The main requirements of a vehicle suspension are that, it should be able to minimize the vertical displacement and the acceleration of the body in order to increase passenger comfort. A viable alternative to maintain the level of comfort is to use a semi-active suspension which will reduce the inherent trade off between the ride comfort and road holding characteristics of the vehicle. In this thesis, a two degree of freedom quarter car ride model with a semi-active suspension system with a skyhook damping controller is simulated on a particular road excitation. The simulation results showed that skyhook controlled semi-active suspensions for particular road excitations are providing better ride comfort and road holding char- acteristics than passive suspension systems.

Abstract
The simulation results showed that skyhook controlled semi-active suspensions for particular road excitations are providing better ride comfort and road holding char- acteristics than passive suspension systems.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
