The integration of solar energy with a conventional power-generation system such as the combined cycle is a very promising technique to produce electricity and heat using renewable energy and at the same time ensure predictability of generation for the grid. In the power-generation system described here, solar energy is used to preheat the air leaving the compressor and directed to the combustion chamber of the gas turbine (GT) where, before being fed into the turbine, it receives additional energy, in a conventional manner, with the gaseous fuel (i.e. natural gas). To improve overall efficiency, exhaust heat from the gas turbine is used to produce steam for the generation of additional electricity by a steam turbine. This allows on one hand to operate the plant even during periods of absence of solar radiation (at night) and on the other it allows to compensate with the gaseous fuel unanticipated events on the solar radiation caused by the movement of clouds, thus guaranteeing predictable and programmable power generation to the grid.

Abstract
This allows on one hand to operate the plant even during periods of absence of solar radiation (at night) and on the other it allows to compensate with the gaseous fuel unanticipated events on the solar radiation caused by the movement of clouds, thus guaranteeing predictable and programmable power generation to the grid.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
