The Bragg grating sensors (FBG), thanks to their characteristics of high sensitivity, low weight and invasiveness, occupy an important role in the developing of SHM systems (Structural Health Monitoring). These sensors, born historically as band-reject filters in optical transmissions, appear to be particularly sensitive to deformation and temperature variations. This MSc thesis focuses on the study of techniques useful to decouple the acquired signal, in order to assess separately the effects of the measures and to have at the same time the evaluation of strain and temperature. Those applications become important when the effects of thermal and mechanical loads are comparable and not negligible.

Abstract
The Bragg grating sensors (FBG), thanks to their characteristics of high sensitivity, low weight and invasiveness, occupy an important role in the developing of SHM systems (Structural Health Monitoring). These sensors, born historically as band-reject filters in optical transmissions, appear to be particularly sensitive to deformation and temperature variations. This MSc thesis focuses on the study of techniques useful to decouple the acquired signal, in order to assess separately the effects of the measures and to have at the same time the evaluation of strain and temperature. Those applications become important when the effects of thermal and mechanical loads are comparable and not negligible.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
