Abstract
In this work, the basic features of the adjoint Euler equations are presented in the context of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The adjoint solution can be used for several purpose: one of them is grid-adaptation. In this context, the formulation of adjoint problem is obtained, providing a indicator for adaptation. The implementation of discrete adjoint method on unstructured grid are discussed, in particular for node-pair formulation used in the program Flowmesh. The adjoint solution, obtained in this way, is used for grid adaptation, for the valutation of integral output functionals of aeronautical interest, like lift and drag coefficients. In conclusion, the results of analysis prove that the use of adjoint solution for grid adaptation drastically reduced the computational efforts required, making interesting the use of this method. On the other hand, they don’t lead to an improvement in the estimation of functionals of interest.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
