Abstract

The main paroblem in the city of Piacenza appears as the limit , the limit which is defined because of the existance of two main elements; ancient wall of the city and the river Po. one is creating the disconnection between what was called the city in the past and what is called in the present. While the other is dealing with the number of barriers which human built and created during the new centuries, From infrastructure to the abandoned spaces which one after the other emphasizied more and more on the creatin of this limit. The main aim of this project is to use this limit for the architecture, to have the action in parallel to it, moving up and down with it instead of destroying it, accepting the fact that once there was a city defined by the wall which now is expanded, by assuming this the hardest part of the design appears. how to do architecture in the limit while the modifications of the site is less. how to create a link between two worlds while this link must be independent and at the same time belonged to both of these two worlds. how to link a number of complex points of the ancient city to a number of complex points of the expanded sites. Will there be a single connection or two or three? If the complexity of the points in two parts are impressive, should we or should not we find another way to link rather than a connection between 2, 3 nodes? The main aim of this thesis is to link, link two parts of the city of Piacenza which because of the history or the human needs or both, the disconnection appeared, but the problem or better to say the beauty of the limit and differences is a contemporary problem in most of the cities in particular European. The link which this project had tended to create is a system, an architectural system built on the limit which through this system from one to x number of connections can happen. A system with the charachter of a spine, a skeleton body with the defined head , legs and arms which are all designed conceptually and practicaly in the relation to this site and its limit.
