The field of research concerning the Structural Health Monitoring in aeronautics, is focusing on the use of embedded sensors in the structural components, expecially those made of composite material, for checking the status of damage and life of the part. The type of sensors wich best suits this point, is Fiber Bragg Grating sensors. In this thesis workhas been developed a technological and experimental activity on composite joints specimens. The first part of the work has focused on the development of a reliable technique for the encapsulation of FBG sensors in composite material curing at high temperatures and pressures. The experimental tests, thanks to the presence of the FBG sensors, have allowed to analyze the evolution of the state of damage of the joints and in consequence, gave the ability to define a Damage Index which, based on the readings of the sensors, is able to provide a direct and objective indication of the integrity of the joint.

Abstract
The field of research concerning the Structural Health Monitoring in aeronautics, is focusing on the use of embedded sensors in the structural components, expecially those made of composite material, for checking the status of damage and life of the part. The type of sensors wich best suits this point, is Fiber Bragg Grating sensors. In this thesis workhas been developed a technological and experimental activity on composite joints specimens. The first part of the work has focused on the development of a reliable technique for the encapsulation of FBG sensors in composite material curing at high temperatures and pressures. The experimental tests, thanks to the presence of the FBG sensors, have allowed to analyze the evolution of the state of damage of the joints and in consequence, gave the ability to define a Damage Index which, based on the readings of the sensors, is able to provide a direct and objective indication of the integrity of the joint.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
