In this thesis, carried out at the Laboratory of Radiation Detectors and Low noise Electronics of the Electronics and Information Department at Politecnico di Milano, multimodal imaging systems with emphasis on SPECT / MRI systems are described. These systems allow the simultaneous acquisition of anatomical (MRI) and functional (SPECT) informations of patients with cancer. The most challenging part in the development of an integrated system of MRI and SPECT probably lies in the design of a detection module able to operate in very high magnetic fields such as 9T, without degradation in performance. The activity of research includes experimental characterization of SDD detectors and scintillation crystals for gamma spectroscopy and the study of the compatibility between the current readout electronics of radiation sensors and magnetic resonance imaging.

Abstract
In this thesis, carried out at the Laboratory of Radiation Detectors and Low noise Electronics of the Electronics and Information Department at Politecnico di Milano, multimodal imaging systems with emphasis on SPECT / MRI systems are described. These systems allow the simultaneous acquisition of anatomical (MRI) and functional (SPECT) informations of patients with cancer. The most challenging part in the development of an integrated system of MRI and SPECT probably lies in the design of a detection module able to operate in very high magnetic fields such as 9T, without degradation in performance. The activity of research includes experimental characterization of SDD detectors and scintillation crystals for gamma spectroscopy and the study of the compatibility between the current readout electronics of radiation sensors and magnetic resonance imaging.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
