A mega-city in Hong Kong. A mega-structure city design at former Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong

In 1960s, Fumihiko Maki presented the concept of Mega-Structure in his article “Investigations in Collective Form”, which was the first time that the word “Mega-Structure” was introduced into architecture. During the following half century, with the pressure of an ever-increasing population and the shortage of building land, a growing number of architects have been focusing on this subject and many famous concepts were taken out. In this design, a vertical city with mega-structure and high density is proposed in the sight of previous Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong. It is supposed to accommodate 100 000 people living and working within a territory of one square kilometer. It sets the stage for tremendous research and investigation into urban density, verticality, domesticity, work, food, infrastructure, nature, ecology, structure and program.
