Center for contemporary art associated with a sculptural park

The project is situated in a strategic position within the urban centre of Berlin, close to the Museum Island, an existing park called; “Monbijoupark” which contains on its current state a set of fragmented urban forms rather than a convincing and unified spatial structure. The proposed intervention is consisting of a centre of contemporary art associated with a sculptural park. The urban intervention emphasises in the articulation of the urban space as an architectural organization, not as a casual gardening and landscape park in order to be able to communicate with the existing urban form and unify the urban context. The proposed building is containing the following functions; a number of exhibition spaces which vary between permanent and temporary art collection, research laboratories, an artist’s residential units and an auditorium. The proposed spatial organisation of the building is based on the theme of the articulation of the primary form; the internal of this primary form is reflecting the complexity of the urban system and the integration of the solid and void. While the proposed sculptural park is consist of a number of outdoor exhibition spaces in order to complete the idea of the Museum Island. The park is designed based on the architectural definition of space, creating a sequence of spaces for public life, and bringing human scale to urban space.
