The Spindle Speed Variation (SSV), is a technique for the suppression of regenerative chatter. It is an undesired instability phenomenon that causes both reduced product surface quality and tool wear. This technique allows , through modulation of amplitude and the frequency of the spindle’s speed, to obtain a stable machining. However, it presents a critical aspect: it reduces the tool duration. The objective of this thesis is to analyze, by means of an appropriate experimental design, the effects of SSV on the tool duration in turning processes. A model that is able to predict the tool life when machining operations are carried out at variable speeds was proposed.

Abstract
The Spindle Speed Variation (SSV), is a technique for the suppression of regenerative chatter. It is an undesired instability phenomenon that causes both reduced product surface quality and tool wear. This technique allows , through modulation of amplitude and the frequency of the spindle’s speed, to obtain a stable machining. However, it presents a critical aspect: it reduces the tool duration. The objective of this thesis is to analyze, by means of an appropriate experimental design, the effects of SSV on the tool duration in turning processes. A model that is able to predict the tool life when machining operations are carried out at variable speeds was proposed.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
