The project was born in response to the competition announcement by Ri.MED Foundation of Palermo for the design of a new Biomedical Research and Biotechnology Center (BRBC), placed in the little town of Carini. The aim to become a center of excellence promoting research and attracting talents, together with the collaboration with Pittsburgh University and the link with the new hospital which will rise in the same area, bring to the creation of a research campus, with visitors suites, videoconference rooms and areas for public meetings. The need of places to promote socialization and where communication and information exchanges can take place informally has been satisfied by designing functional diversified squares. The heart of the project is the “Building of Research”: areas of laboratories are organized in order to meet the need of space and to have possibilities of units rearrangements due to the continuous evolution of this sector. The characteristic modular division of internal research areas matches with the exterior side of the building: facades' rhythm is punctuated by a cellular system Finally we completed our project with the analysis of building casing, solar filters, and laboratories illumination in relation to Mediterranean climate.

Abstract
The characteristic modular division of internal research areas matches with the exterior side of the building: facades' rhythm is punctuated by a cellular system Finally we completed our project with the analysis of building casing, solar filters, and laboratories illumination in relation to Mediterranean climate.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
