SmarTower. Cantiere evento, adaptive reuse, architettura dinamica nelle aree ex Falck, Sesto San Giovanni, Milano

The project smarTower inherit the experience gathered in the first Workshop on the Falck Area. The thesis starts out the historical and social themes pointed out in the workshop and brings them into many design solutions concerning the “Unione” water tower (named after the area where it takes place). The thesis in subdivided in three parts: past, present and future. A journey though the history from XIX century until today shows the mutation of the area, as well as the evolution of “water tower” building type and functionality across the time. The “site event” design suggestion deals with emerging requirements: the refurbishment of an historical structure and the public accessibility of the area. A structural security and economic feasability studies are provided to support the “site event” design. Eventually an adaptive reuse of the tower is studied in order to transform a merely functional device into a livable space. Many volumes from the “site event” becomes part (with some integrations) of the new “multi-force headquarter”. This project includes a tech deepening about a dynamic shading system aimed at proving the advantages of this technology in terms of comfort and sustainability.

Il progetto smarTower matura dall’esperienza conseguita durante il primo workshop internazionale “Aree Ex - Falck”. La tesi parte dai temi storici e sociali emersi durante il workshop, e li affronta mediante soluzioni progettuali che hanno come oggetto la torre piezometrica “Unione” situata nella omonima area. La tesi esamina il ruolo della torre in tre chiavi di lettura: passato, presente e futuro. Un percorso che parte dal XIX secolo mostra l’evoluzione delle aree nel tempo, ma anche le diverse modalità costruttive che hanno caratterizzato la tipologia “torre dell’acqua” dalla sua invenzione ad oggi. Viene avanzata una proposta progettuale, che risponde alla duplice esigenza di recuperare la struttura del manufatto storico in oggetto e rendere accessibile l’area attraverso spazi panoramici e luoghi di aggregazione. Tale proposta è sostenuta da un’indagine sull asicurezza strutturale ed una stima economica. Infine si studia l’utilizzo futuro della torre come “Centrale Operativa Interforze”, un progetto di riuso adattivo che attraverso l’utilizzo dei volumi già creati durante il cantiere (integrato con nuovi), trasforma il manufatto da dispositivo funzionale a spazio abitabile. Tale progetto comprende un approfondimento tecnologico sui sistemi di schermature dinamiche volto a dimostrare i vantaggi di tale tecnologia in termini di sostenibilità e comfort.
