This thesis regards the study of so-called "green composites ", i.e. the analysis of natural fibers that may represent an alternative to composite fibers. These materials are characterized by low costs. The material studied is the bamboo, treated as a unidirectional composite. After determination of the mechanical properties through a campaign of static tests on two types of structural bamboo, possible fields of use of this material are illustrated. The idea is to create a City Bike with the frame completely made with bamboo and spliced with hemp fibers embedded in epoxy resin. Then a finite element model of the frame is created, in order to characterize loads that the bicycle shall support. Finite elements analysis show satisfactory correlation with the experimental tests. Frame weights and costs are very competitive in comparison with frames of bikes in the same category.

Abstract
Frame weights and costs are very competitive in comparison with frames of bikes in the same category.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
