Bogota scenario zero. Urbanscape recomposition towards a collective vision

The context of this research is the interpretation of the territory, which is an essential instrument for understanding and designing the city; it also has the potential to foster the construction of a common image of the city, hence it implies a projection of the spatial composition, lifestyles and relationship of the city with its surrounding environment. In the last decades, the process of urbanization in Bogota has been determinate by norms and rules established by economical development models that base the construction of the city on market forces, without proposing a vision of the city. This process of urbanization, where each part seeks independent solutions without a context, has generate a fragmented city, where segregation and exclusion keep the interrelations to its minimum, constructing physical and social borders and increasing the gap between social classes. This work aims to develop a spatial interpretation of the territory based on urbanscape systems, called Scenario Zero. It works as a basis to develop spatial strategies to encourage a vision of the city. Urbanscape refers to the interaction between urban actors and the elements of the city, and is related with the way the city is perceived; and System is used to counteract the condition of fragmentation, although its components can be analyzed independently, they cannot be separated since the system has properties that emerge from the interaction of its parts.

Questa ricerca è focalizzata sull’interpretazione del territorio, un processo essenziale per la comprensione e la progettazione della città. Questo processo favorisce la costruzione di una immagine della città che pone l’attenzione sugli stili di vita dei cittadini, sulla composizione degli spazi urbani e sull’interazione della città con l’ambiente circostante. Negli ultimi decenni, il processo di urbanizzazione di Bogota è stato determinato da un modello di sviluppo economico legato alla forze di mercato, che non ha dato luogo alla creazione di una identità della città. Questo processo di urbanizzazione ha creato soluzioni indipendenti prive di contesto che hanno generato una citta frammentata, dove i confini fisici e sociali sono sempre più tangibili, ed è possibile notarlo con l’aumento del divario tra classi sociali che si è avuto negli anni nei differenti quartieri della metropoli. Questo lavoro ha l’intento di sviluppare un’interpretazione spaziale del territorio basata su sistemi di paesaggio urbano, denominato Scenario Zero. Paesaggio urbano è l’insieme delle interazioni tra cittadini e gli elementi costituenti della città che creano una percezione univoca della città. Il Sistema è utilizzato per contrastare la frammentazione di cui Bogota è affetta. Sebbene ogni parte del sistema è indipendente dalle altre esse non possono essere separate. E’ importante dunque studiare e comprendere le proprietà che emergono dalla interazione delle differenti parti del sistema.
