Performative landscape

Nowadays the area of “Ex Officine Meccaniche Reggiane” is a left over space, the area is abandoned and perceived as dangerous. The project would like to enhance the enclave effects, transforming this not-considered abandoned area in an independent prototype city, where experimental projects on energy recovery and new way of living are possible. As in a large construction site, walkways and trellises bypass the time-consuming reconstruction: the built heritage must count deadlines and rules of the bureaucracy, but the use of the area as "relational space" is not excluded. So the ruins can become "inhabited". Using the area as it is now, made accessible and traversable - at least partially - through the use of basic infrastructures, detachable, reversible and transformable. The city will take the site as an example of a new possible development so the site will be transformed into a model of regeneration of the city itself.

Oggi l’area delle Ex Officine Reggiane è uno spazio abbandonato ed è percepito come pericoloso. Il progetto vuole trasformare questo spazio residuale in un prototipo di città, dove è possibile un uso diverso dell’energia e nuovi modelli di sviluppo sono possibili. Usando l’area come è adesso, resa accessibile e attraversabile attraverso l’uso di un’infrastruttura di base removibile, trasformabile e trasportabile. Le Ex Officine Reggiane diverranno indipendenti dal resto della città attraverso un autonomo sistema di produzione dell’energia. Il suolo verrà trasformato attraverso un lungo processo di bio-bonifica che prevede l’utilizzo di elementi naturali per eliminare i residui industriali presenti. Come in un grande cantiere passerelle e rotaie attraversano i resti industriali. Per il riuso degli edifici occorre seguire i lunghi tempi della burocrazia, ma l’uso dell’area come spazio di relazioni non è escluso, così le rovine diventano abitate.
