The demand of road safety is closely linked to the need for mobility that, in Italy as in all other economically advanced countries, has increased significantly in recent decades. Crashworthiness is crucial for the fulfillment of this request and its progress passes through the development of numerical models suitable for simulation and analysis of crash events, both for optimization purposes and to verify the fulfillment of mandatory safety standards. This thesis deals with the developement of a finite element model for crash tests against road restraint system, using the software LS-Dyna.The validation roadmap consisted of many numerical tests, useful both to verify and improve the model. Finally a full scale crash test against a deformable barrier, that is the final aim of the vehicle has been successfully run.

Abstract
The demand of road safety is closely linked to the need for mobility that, in Italy as in all other economically advanced countries, has increased significantly in recent decades. Crashworthiness is crucial for the fulfillment of this request and its progress passes through the development of numerical models suitable for simulation and analysis of crash events, both for optimization purposes and to verify the fulfillment of mandatory safety standards. This thesis deals with the developement of a finite element model for crash tests against road restraint system, using the software LS-Dyna.The validation roadmap consisted of many numerical tests, useful both to verify and improve the model. Finally a full scale crash test against a deformable barrier, that is the final aim of the vehicle has been successfully run.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
