The stress field surrounding an opening crack has been studied by Williams, and can be expressed by the classic potential function z^α. This thesis deals with the study of a new potential function that can describe properly the stress field surrounding a compressed crack, where the friction between the edges is not negligible. Several experimental proofs has been done in order to analyze and validate the results provided by this new analytical function, using the photoelastic method togheter with a finite-element-method. As an indirect result, a comparison between all the methods of fringe’s data analysis is presented.

Abstract
The stress field surrounding an opening crack has been studied by Williams, and can be expressed by the classic potential function z^α. This thesis deals with the study of a new potential function that can describe properly the stress field surrounding a compressed crack, where the friction between the edges is not negligible. Several experimental proofs has been done in order to analyze and validate the results provided by this new analytical function, using the photoelastic method togheter with a finite-element-method. As an indirect result, a comparison between all the methods of fringe’s data analysis is presented.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
