The aim of this work is to simulate sequentially the day ahead energy market and the market for ancillary services in order to find out a realistic solution, as regards prices and quantity sold, in which we can identify the level of market power that generation companies exercise through their bidding strategies. The model, written within GAMS (General Algebraic Modeling), is based on Supply Functions Equilibra’s approach and, thanks to a Genetic Algorithm, it looks for a Nash Equilibrium for specific situations that occur in Italian electricity market. We made up the choice of the study cases “Sicily” and “Sardinia” after a detailed analysis regarding the competition level shown by electricity industry.

Abstract
The aim of this work is to simulate sequentially the day ahead energy market and the market for ancillary services in order to find out a realistic solution, as regards prices and quantity sold, in which we can identify the level of market power that generation companies exercise through their bidding strategies. The model, written within GAMS (General Algebraic Modeling), is based on Supply Functions Equilibra’s approach and, thanks to a Genetic Algorithm, it looks for a Nash Equilibrium for specific situations that occur in Italian electricity market. We made up the choice of the study cases “Sicily” and “Sardinia” after a detailed analysis regarding the competition level shown by electricity industry.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
