This thesis deal with a Life Cycle Assessment study of the products CORKPAN and CORKGRAN produced by Amorim Isolamentos SA, Portuguese leader in this sector. The production process of insulation panels, and of the granulate is analyzed item by item, focusing the attention on the aspects that make this process eco-friendly and the only one in its category. In a second stage, the attention is centered only on the cork panel and a new LCA, focused on the building of an edifice caulked by this material, is than developed in comparison with the environmental impact caused by the installation of extruded polystyrene insulation panels, XPS. Another qualitative comparison is developed dealing with the fire performances of these two materials referring to the European reaction to fire ranking. In conclusion a starting point for a new kind of study is proposed with the aim to assess the environmental impact of a blaze that involves a building caulked with insulation panels of any kind of material. The proposed study is the LCA - Fire Model.
