The layers of Beato. A redevelopment project with a new library in the convent of Beato for the city of Lisbon

Our purpose with the project is to help the abandoned industrial lands of Beato full of history become a living social space for people to come and visit all the time and not let it remain as an empty depressed space under the third bridge in the future with the expansion of the zones of Chelas and Marvila. We thpught that it was very important to construct an educational-social equipment to attract people. In our project of the library, we want to make a connection with all the new riverfront structure proposals of the municipality of Lisbon. Also with our project the city will be linked right from the west part, crossing the historical center, then passing to the ex-industrial area of our project ,to Estação do Oriente where the Expo 98 is located. The connection will not only be along the riverfront, also the Convent of Beato should become an entrance to arrive the upper zone of Marvila with a complex system of terraces and ramps, the people can access easily to this part of the city with a designed path that is not only a green space but also showing the industrial and religious architectural heritage present in the area. This green area in the back part of the convent provides the quality for the life of the inhabitants of the zone, taking in advantage the empty lots after the demolition of the factories we propose a big urban park connected with the zone under the bridge to create a huge set of public spaces.

La nostra idea di progetto è quelle di aiutare i terreni industriali dismesse di la zona di Beato a Lisbona, un luogo pieno di edıfıcı storici religiosi e ındustriali a diventare uno spazio sociale vivente, cosi le persone della citta’ e quelle che in un futuro con l' ampliamento delle zone di Chelas e Marvıla lo possono venire a visitare tutto il tempo e non lasciare che rimanga come uno spazio vuoto e depresso sotto il futuro terzo ponte sul Tejo. Noi pensiamo che é molto importante costruire un equipamento educazionale e sociale per attirare la gente a questo luogo Nel nostro progetto della biblioteca, vogliamo fare un collegamento con tutte le nuove proposte di struttura che ha il masterplan del comune di Lisbona lungo il fiume Tejo. Anche con il nostro progetto la città sarà collegata direttamente dalla parte ovest, attraversando il centro storico, passando poi per l'area ex - industriale del nostro progetto, per finalmente arrıvare alla Estação do Oriente dove si trova l' Expo 98 . Il collegamento non sarà solo lungo il fiume, anche il Convento del Beato dovrebbe diventare un ingresso per arrivare alla zona superiore di Marvila con un complesso sistema di terrazze e rampe le persone potrebbero accedere facilmente a questa parte della città con un percorso disegnato che non è solo sara’ uno spazio verde, ma anche una galleriıa per mostrare il patrimonio architettonico industriale e religioso presente nella zona. Questa area verde nella parte posteriore del convento prevede una miglıore qualità di vita per gli abitanti della zona; prendendo in vantaggio i lotti vuoti dopo la demolizione delle fabbriche noi proponiamo un grande parco urbano che si collega con la zona sotto il ponte per creare una serie enorme di spazi pubblici.
