Abstract
The city is perceived as a rhythmic articulation of solids and voids. The voids are often opposed to the plasticity of the volumes recreating changeable and magnificent spaces, but at the same time, generators of the space, taking on characters of monumentality, pass on feelings of disturbing and majesty at the same time. Void: devoid of content, that inculde nothing, that has nothing inside it. In Wester culture the “void” mean lack, absence or negation, or something privative; in Eastern culture the “void” has a completely different meaning, since this has own reality, its effectiveness that is an entity which without the “solids” wouldn't find a way to be. In urban areas, this link can be interpreted as the link between the landscape and the built envirorment, between the profile of figure and its background. In the West , the focus is on the “ solids”, on the subject, in the East is on the empty space, in which the subject lives. The Architect Luigi Snozzisaid: architecture is a voids, it's up to you to define it. The thesis proposes the redevelpment of a big urban void, the area of national shooting Cagnola, located in North-West of Milan, next to Viale Certosa, one of the city's main arteries connecting downtown to suburbs. The development of the design, was conceived on a system of a few geometric signs, define the “void” throught material and excavation. The project aims to be an aggregator in the district, mainly residential and without living space for the comunity. In addiction to meeting spaces, such as park and cultural center located underground, the design's attention has focused on residential building, that complete the project, act as a connection with background.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
