Abstract
Brazil: conflict between two entities, the fomal reality, made by sckyscrapers, residential closed systems, shopping malls and the informal one, the city of the “inconvenients” , of marginalization, completely erased from the gaze. Despite the spatial proximity the two realities have no relational contact, becoming therefore two separeted entities: the Formal City and the Informal City. Informal city means, in most of the cases, city of neglection and exclusion, ignored by the neighbour Formal sister. A spatial enclave that easly mutates itself into a social enclave, that does not respond to formal predispositions, but still characterized in its guts by a strong urban plasticity, better described as “survival flexibility”. Where are Informal cities? What are the main features of Informality? Which tools we have to read it? But, above all, how can we make a project for an apparently unprojectable city? Informal cities are a global phenomenon due to immigration in the inner city, characterized by an architecture of addition and occupation in which there is the necessity of a space of socialization. In the light of those reflections the thesis “Geography of reappropriation, between the formal and informal city, the Glicério case in São Paulo” trys to explore into the field of the uncertain, perceiving the absence of clear elements of analysis of the conflictual relationship among the two cities, attempting to reach a specific objective: from a space of neglection towards a space of relation. The project site is located in São Paulo, Brazil, and specificly in the Glicério neighbourhood. Glicério has been both at the center and at the periphery of the city at the same time, physically detached from the rest of São Paulo by a set of buildings that do not allow penetration into the favela, by an elevated highway (Viaduto do Glicério), and by the river, a busy highway, and an unused park. The strategy is based on a punctual intervention in the center of the blocks, draw to preserve a new sequence of voids, through the construction of architectural public devices systems as connectors between streets and the closed neighbourhood. São Paulo will not be “city of walls” anymore, but city of “voids of relation”, land of contact between Formal and Informal.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
