Abstract
Cairo is situated about 160 Km in the south of the Mediterranean Sea, in a geostrategic position on the river Nile. In particular, it is in the “turning point” between the triangular structure of the delta in the north and the linear one in the south expanding perpendicularly on the east-west axis. From 1980, the population and the urbanization grow rapidly and they are considered as problems in the big cities that are developing. As a consequence of explosive growth, the life’s conditions of the metropolis have deteriorated. We are seeing a massive enlargement of the informal settlements, it is a term coined by the Egyptian governorate (munatiq ‘ashwa’ia) to describe the non-historical urban areas that have developed on the agricultural plot from 1950 without sanctions, plans or authorization. Cairo has an enormous potential to find new solutions to the urban problems, but it needs a sustainable development of urban areas’ plan. The answer is a strategic integrated junction of the sections through a continuous wired equipment in the territory through precise graft balance that determined new attractive epicentres, while the old and historical installations increase their symbolic value. The planning of new agricultural and urban centralities means thinking about the connection with the mobility’s system and the integration with the agricultural periurban landscape through a typology consistent with the African area. The project strategy is linked to a new rail system of the mobility that will collaborate to the potential of the agricultural production, with a particular attention to the permaculture’s techniques and a deep sensibility to the architectonic style that is typical of Islam in the planning of the farm, considered as space in between that preserves the hearth held at the center. The agricultural and urban biomes are linked creating a new urban space of an ecotonal interface equipped with public spaces based on the idea of crossing throught and puntuacted by fictions polarity welfare, a connection between the agricultural and the urban in which happen the discovery of the slow time through merging of architecture and vegetation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
