Comprehensive framework for energy efficiency in manufacturing industry

Recently, the efficient consumption of energy has been becoming a significant issue for the companies to keep their competitive position in the industry. Therefore, the companies have to make a deep analysis to figure out how they can have a useful methodology to help them to consume less energy. Even though there are some methodologies to assist firms to cope with energy efficiency, they mostly do not have a comprehensive consideration of the issue. That's why, nowadays, it is not that easy for the firms to take an advantage of the existing methodologies for energy efficiency. This research intends to focus on the absence of a comprehensive methodology to make companies exploit this methodology to increase their energy efficiency. Thus, this study aims to build an integrated solution for this issue and to designate how to implement the energy efficiency in the firms. The role of KPIs for the energy efficiency will be the indicators to come up with an optimum solution. For this purpose, the initial aim of this study is to determine the key performance indicators for the energy efficiency by doing a comprehensive literature review on energy efficiency and existing methodologies, aspects and concepts to improve the energy efficiency. That's why this dissertation aims at using the KPIs, which are going to be determined by the research to develop a useful methodology for the firms to improve their energy efficiency. First of all, literature review must be accomplished to have an idea about current methodologies and aspects. Moreover, KPIs for the energy efficiency have to be indicated. Then, several interviews with the companies who are trying to develop their energy efficiency have to be analysed. After all, the research gap has to be found and has to be gone further in this point. The results of this study will contribute to the firms and managers who have an aim to improve their energy efficiency thanks to a proper methodology. This thesis will review related literature and this will give an idea about current situation of energy efficiency. Moreover, findings about KPIs and their importance will give a direction to companies to improve their energy efficiency. Lastly, the interviews with the firms who put an effort to improve their energy efficiency will be helpful for the firms.
