LIME STONE is a Project concerning the environmental requalification of quarry Vaiolo Alta and the rehabilitation of Collegio La Madonnina, both placed in Lecco on the North side of Mount Magnodeno. The main goal of the Project is increasing the value of areas subjected to severe decay conditions by taking care of the environmental and landscape improvement. The analysis in object as been realized in order to strike a balance between the areas utility, creating a unique ensemble with the main facilities system located in Lecco. In order to create the facilities network, different topics have been considered, such as the modification of the Magnodeno rock caused by elements that directly effected on it. The name LIME STONE comes from the analysis of this topic. The studying has touched different issues related to the project area, speaking of the natural environment and the territorial system of Lecco and Mount Magnodeno, such as environmental impacts caused by mining activities or other impacts which rised up during the quarry life. LIME STONE comes as a didactic park where it is possible to retrace the history of the quarry and, at the same time, of the Magnodeno mountain becoming part of the tourism system of Lecco Province. The requalification can be considered as a starting point to recreate the original environment of the mountain, involving the population in using the park without causing a new decay of the area. Another important aspect of the analysis is the recovery of Collegio La Madonnina which gives an added value to maintain the historical and artistic identity of the zone, readapting the building as a guest house and including the visitors of the park. The reuse of local materials has defined the urban and architectural language by giving the name of the park LIME STONE.
