This work is an experimental study about Flying Ballast phenomena, the uplift of the stones belonging to the railway caused by an intense air flow induced by the passage of a high speed train. The study has been carried out with in-line tests, in order to characterize the air flow underneath the train, the vibration which ballast is subject to and to perform an analysis of occurrences using a train instrumented both with microphone and optical barriers, and with wind tunnel tests on a 1:1 railway model.

Abstract
This work is an experimental study about Flying Ballast phenomena, the uplift of the stones belonging to the railway caused by an intense air flow induced by the passage of a high speed train. The study has been carried out with in-line tests, in order to characterize the air flow underneath the train, the vibration which ballast is subject to and to perform an analysis of occurrences using a train instrumented both with microphone and optical barriers, and with wind tunnel tests on a 1:1 railway model.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
