One of the main topics of physical metallurgy is to increase the reliability of the alloys, improving their performances. In this sense, choosing a proper heat treatment is a key factor to obtain the desired mechanical properties of a material that are influenced by its microstructure. This thesis is focused on the analysis of the effects of an intercritical heat treatment (IHT), by reverse austenite transformation (RAT), applied after the conventional heat treatment of quenching. The used steel is the AISI 4130, common special steel. The microstructures and mechanical properties have been evaluated on the basis of metallographic analysis and mechanical tests (hardness, tensile and toughtness). In order to find an optimum heat treatment condition, the properties featuring the samples treated by various IHT temperatures have been investigated.

Abstract
In order to find an optimum heat treatment condition, the properties featuring the samples treated by various IHT temperatures have been investigated.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
