Aldo Loris Rossi. City fragments and futuristic utopias

The decision to write my thesis on Aldo Loris Rossi was a desire and a thought that isgrounded in my mind for many years, when, intent on drawing up a research bibliography for design course in my first yearof studies, I found a small monograph.Fanning it I was immediately impressed by the quality of the drawings: energetic, expressive, and consistent in organic shapes applied both to his city as snippets to his utopian and future studies of the new town. After having read the text, I turned a world almost unknown to contemporary architecture, especially the Italian organic and international avant-garde currents, which, still to be studied in my career, I started independently to discover. Arrived at the end of my studies came finally an opportunity to carry out this study,synthesized with passion through words and pictures in this thesis. I decided to do my research by splitting it into operating mode in three different parts,so as to create a crescendo of information and increasing experience of the works ofAldo Loris Rossi. The first part was a critical and analytical research, which can only be seen from therooms of a library, looking for every type of material could went on to the subject. A second part, was a photography project, based on the bibliographical research prior to where I wanted to touch the works, that I believed and in support of my argument. A third and final part, finally, was the meeting with the architect, because I felt, andrightly so, that only the main source would ideally lead me in the vastness of information you were looking for, defining what is the structure of my research work. La decisione di scrivere la mia Tesi di Laurea su Aldo Loris Rossi è stato una volontà ed un pensiero che si è sedimentato nella mia mente per molti anni, quando, intento a redigere una ricerca bibliografia per il corso di progettazione al primo anno ,trovai una sua piccola monografia.Sfogliandola rimasi da subito impressionato dalla qualità del disegno:energico, espressivo, plastico e coerente nelle forme organiche applicate sia ai suoi frammenti di città come ai suoi studi utopistici e futuribili della città nuova. Dopo averne letto il testo, mi si rivelò un mondo quasi sconosciuto, quello di un’ architettura contemporanea, in particolar modo quella organica italiana, e delle correnti avanguardiste internazionali, che, ancora da studiare nella mia carriera, cominciavo in maniera autonoma a scoprire. Arrivato al termine dei miei studi è giunta finalmente l’occasione di poter portare a compimento questo studio, sintetizzato con passione tramite parole ed immagini in questa tesi. Ho deciso di operare la mia ricerca suddividendola in modo operativo in tre diverse parti, in modo da realizzare un crescendo di informazioni e di esperienza sempre maggiori delle opere di Aldo Loris Rossi. Prima parte è stata una ricerca critica ed analitica, quale può solo essere quella vista dalle stanze di una biblioteca, cercando ogni tipo di materiale potesse introdurmi al tema. Una seconda parte, è stato un progetto fotografico, basandomi sulle ricerche bibliografiche precedenti, dove ho voluto toccare con mano le opere realizzate, che ho creduto importanti ed a sostegno della mia tesi.Una terza ed ultima parte, infine, è stato l’incontro con l’architetto, in quanto ho ritenuto, ed a ragion veduta, che solo la fonte prinicpale potesse idealmente guidarmi nella vastità di informazioni cercate, definendo quella che è la struttura della mia opera di ricerca. Da qui sorge, infatti, la decisione di descrivere carriera e biografia l’architetto in tre capitoli, quante le fasi operative che hanno contraddistinto la sua carriera: La crescita, non banale accumulo di informazione, ma sedimentazione di esperienza, la dimensione urbana, definita come il laboratorio continuo e sperimentale della sua carriera e l’attivismo sociale e politico filo conduttore sempre presente e che oggi è megafono delle sue ricerche.
