111 km rehabilitation of dying villages in Serbia

In this era of globalization, many of the same issues are occurring in all corners of the earth. Industrialization caused a major decline of rural areas which were predominantly agriculture-oriented. People migrated towards bigger industrial centres in search of better job opportunities. Upon the development of new high technologies, the robust industrial complexes became obsolete and the working force redundant. This again caused migrations towards the big cities which offered, and still do, more diverse job opportunities in cleaner industries such as services, trade, IT and the like. As a result, the cities are becoming overcrowded, which in turn causes multiple social, cultural and economic problems. On the other hand, villages are at times left completely abandoned, primarily because these communities were conceived around agricultural production and that socio-economical context was not upgraded to fit the needs of a person in the 21st century.
