Improvements in production and quality management system in ETO : a case study

Engineer to order is a strategy of production where the company starts manufacturing after reception of an order by the client. Most of the times the products in this case are highly customized and involve new research and innovation carried out by the technical office of the industry to meet customer demands. The engineering department in this case is the decoupling point between customer and industry. The production department has to wait till the engineering department releases the new designs and bill of materials, the procurement office is also contacted after the design has been finalized to start purchasing the new material required to manufacture the product. The quality department has a key role in this company having a good interface between outsource suppliers, procurement and production departments. Meeting the deadlines provided by the customer and managing the process in this case is a very demanding task. The purpose of this thesis is to study the production and quality issues in this scenario. As a case study we will look in to the management carried out in a cable reel manufacturing industry Cavotec Specimas Spa.

Ingegnere di ordinare è una strategia di produzione in cui l'azienda inizia la produzione dopo la ricezione di un ordine da parte del cliente. La maggior parte delle volte i prodotti in questo caso sono altamente personalizzati e coinvolgere nuovi ricerca e innovazione svolte dall'ufficio tecnico del settore per soddisfare le richieste dei clienti. L'ufficio tecnico, in questo caso è il punto di disaccoppiamento tra il cliente e l'industria. Il reparto di produzione deve attendere fino al dipartimento di ingegneria rilascia i nuovi design e fattura dei materiali, l'ufficio acquisti è anche contattato dopo che il progetto è stato finalizzato per iniziare l'acquisto del nuovo materiale necessari alla fabbricazione del prodotto. Il reparto qualità ha un ruolo chiave in questa azienda con una buona interfaccia tra fornitori esterni, gli appalti e reparti di produzione. Soddisfare i termini previsti dal cliente e gestione del processo in questo caso è un compito molto impegnativo. Lo scopo di questa tesi è quello di studiare i problemi di produzione e di qualità in questo scenario. Come caso di studio cercheremo per la gestione svolta in un settore manifatturiero avvolgicavo Cavotec Specimas Spa.
