Project for the requalification of the World Expo 2015. Site through the research and design of an urban sport park

With Milan hosting the 2015 World Expo, it will soon arrive a late space void of function after a large international event. Looking to the conditions of post-expo and post-olympic facilities, it is necessary to requalify the space that was designed for a specific event. To this end, a new master plan is prepared in an attempt to integrate the community back into the Milan World Expo Site in an attempt to reactivate a perceived useless space. Starting from the urban plan of the city and from a in-depth research as to the existing sporting facilities, the master plan is strategized to work from the base of the Expo program and extent to the insertion of new programs and facilities. The concept of this new master plan extends from breaking the barriers of the Expo and create an urban integration between the master plan and the city but also between the stadium and the individual. The urban and architectural are formed together to work and focus the attention to an appropriately designed context and development.

Al World Expo 2015 seguirà un vuoto funzionale caratteristico degli eventi internazionali della sua portata. Osservando le condizioni in cui versano gli interventi costruiti ad hoc per gli eventi expo e per i giochi olimpici, ci si rende conto di come sia necessaria una strategia di riqualificazione per i suddetti spazi. A questo scopo è stato studiato un nuovo masterplan, con l’obbiettivo di reintegrare la comunità cittadina all’interno dell’area Expo e di portare a nuova vita spazi percepiti come inutilizzabili. Partendo dallo studio del piano urbano della città e da un’attenta ricerca inerente alle strutture sportive esistenti, il masterplan è organizzato in maniera tale da funzionare a partire dalle funzioni Expo in essere ed ampliarsi con l’integrazione di nuovi programmi. Il concept del progetto vuole quindi eliminare le barriere connaturate alla struttura di Expo e creare una chiara connessione con la città circostante, portando ad un’unione più immediata tra l’individuo, il cittadino, e lo stadio. Il tema urbano e quello architettonico si fondono per coesistere e funzionare empaticamente per creare un contesto urbano accuratamente progettato e sviluppato.
