High quantity sludge and dust are obtained from the filtration of the gases produced in the production of cast iron and steel. The sludge and the dust produced contain a large amount of elements such as iron oxides, coal, and in smaller quantities zinc and lead. These production wastes are difficult to recycle due to their unfavourable physical and metallurgical properties. Most of the sludge and dust are destined for disposal in landfills which wastes significant quantities of the material still present in them; only a small amount of sludge and powders are recycled. The thesis shows a first hypothesis for the solution to the problem of recycling through the analysis of the behaviour of the BF sludge and BOF sludge and dust. The solution is based on the formation of briquettes containing a mixture of BOF dust and sludge with a high carbon content. The process of roasting the briquettes may create metallic iron which is reusable in steel mills. These analyses demonstrated the technical feasibility of the use of these waste materials for the production of pellets to make metallic iron when the carbon concentration is greater than 10%.

Abstract
These analyses demonstrated the technical feasibility of the use of these waste materials for the production of pellets to make metallic iron when the carbon concentration is greater than 10%.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
