Thanks to the use of FOT and OEP it is possible to evaluate the global and regional mechanics of newborns’ respiratory system during HFOV. FOT can help in finding optimal frequency (f0) and OEP permits a regional assessment. There are significant local variations in chest wall mechanical properties during pressure propagation: in infants receiving HFOV, the chest wall oscillates asynchronously and non-uniformly. This behavior is more evident with increasing oscillatory frequencies, with the abdominal compartment being, in average, more sensitive to changes in f.

Abstract
Thanks to the use of FOT and OEP it is possible to evaluate the global and regional mechanics of newborns’ respiratory system during HFOV. FOT can help in finding optimal frequency (f0) and OEP permits a regional assessment. There are significant local variations in chest wall mechanical properties during pressure propagation: in infants receiving HFOV, the chest wall oscillates asynchronously and non-uniformly. This behavior is more evident with increasing oscillatory frequencies, with the abdominal compartment being, in average, more sensitive to changes in f.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
