This paper shall point to the history of Tensile Architecture in the human living period and its acceptance in urban context and will try to produce a brief introduction of major membrane materials such as PTFE, PVC and Silicon Coated Polyester, but the main focus will remain on ETFE and its architectural and environmental benefits as a tensile material in the forms of both foils and cushions. The ETFE’s chemical and mechanical properties will be discussed including two analyses whose aim is to offer the main advantages of this material versus traditional and conventional solutions. The benefits like lightness, strength, cost effective, constructing time, sustainability and recyclability and at the end case studies with detail drawings will explain better the idea of tensile membrane structures.

Abstract
This paper shall point to the history of Tensile Architecture in the human living period and its acceptance in urban context and will try to produce a brief introduction of major membrane materials such as PTFE, PVC and Silicon Coated Polyester, but the main focus will remain on ETFE and its architectural and environmental benefits as a tensile material in the forms of both foils and cushions. The ETFE’s chemical and mechanical properties will be discussed including two analyses whose aim is to offer the main advantages of this material versus traditional and conventional solutions. The benefits like lightness, strength, cost effective, constructing time, sustainability and recyclability and at the end case studies with detail drawings will explain better the idea of tensile membrane structures.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
