Developing a tool to assess the business concept of solar thermal façades

The thesis aims to develop a user-friendly tool mainly addressed to technical managers, engineers and architects to assess the business concept of solar façades. The strength of the instrument is linked to the multidisciplinary-based approach giving the user the chance to set inputs relative to technologies, maintenance recurrence and related costs, energy efficiency and financial mechanisms to bear the initial cost and eventu-ally pay back the extra-cost of investment in comparison with other solutions. The tool’s objective is providing a life cycle cost perspective considering the effect of technical choices. The instrument was extensively experimented in the analysis of a solar thermal façade developed within an industrial project.

La tesi ha come oggetto lo sviluppo di uno strumento di supporto per la valutazione di sistemi di facciata solare, consentendo all'utente di quantificare in fase preliminare l'effetto di scelte tecnologiche in termini economici durante il ciclo di vita dell'edificio. Il tool è stato sperimentato analizzando una facciata solare termica sviluppata all'interno di un progetto industriale, usata come caso studio.
