Over the edge. Thinking about Unesco buffer zones. Add value to Mantova through landscape and its relations

The main concept of the buffer zone has appeared as a comparatively combined approach to the nature conservation. Buffer zones are seen as a significant tool in conserving areas of ecological importance, while at the same time they can be affected by their surrounding areas. With Considering the relation between outside and inside of buffer zones, many issues emerge from surrounding areas to the buffer zones. This research tries to improve the situation of the UNESCO buffer zone to add value to it with the eyes of conservation from outside and inside. Following the approach, this project focused on over the edge of Mantova UNESCO buffer zone as the main title of the design process.

La tesi ha indagato il concetto di buffer zone assumendo come riferimento il ruolo che lo stesso svolge nelle strategie di conservazione naturalistica. Le buffer zone sono considerate uno strumento significativo per la conservazione dei valori naturalistici e, allo stesso tempo, possono essere influenzate dalle trasformazioni che avvengono nelle aree circostanti. Interessanti risultano le relazioni che si stabiliscono tra l'esterno e l'interno delle buffer zone, molti temi progettuali emergono in queste situazioni. Questa ricerca si propone di indagare le specificità delle buffer zone UNESCO e di comprendere quali strategie promuovere per aumentarne il valore, sotto il profilo della conservazione dell’ambiente interno ed esterno. Seguendo questo approccio, la tesi si è concentrata sullo studio della buffer zone UNESCO della città di Mantova, assumendo questo limite come elemento rilevante del processo di progettazione urbana.
