The dynamical behaviour of hydrodynamic bearings is an important field of study since these components affect the dynamical stability of rotating machineries on which they are installed. In this work, a thermal-elastic-hydrodynamic finite element model of a thrust bearing has been implemented by means of a multiphysics element finite software. This model allows to simulate all the phenomena involved in the functioning of a thrust bearing with tilting pads. The model has been validated by comparing its results with the experimental ones proposed in literature. The axial stiffness of the thrust bearing has been also calculated for different operating conditions. Moreover the influence of the PTFE coating on the bearing performances have been evaluated and compared with those obtained for the babbit coating. A sensitivity analysis of the coating thickness on the thrust bearing behavior has been also performed.

Abstract
A sensitivity analysis of the coating thickness on the thrust bearing behavior has been also performed.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
