The Corte Vecchia is the oldest nucleus of the Ducal Palace, inhabited first by the Bonacolsi family, and from 1328 by the Gonzaga family, who lived there until 1459, when the Marquis Ludovico Gonzaga moved to Castello. The intervention regards a part of the entire complex of Corte Vecchia, in particular it has intervened in different spaces, which have a very important historical and architectural value, such as the old chapel of Santa Croce, the Refectory and the rooms in Magna Domus. Initially, the challenge of working in such a complicated historical context, transformed over the centuries, was to study the relationships between different spaces organized on different levels. After analysing the complex, close attention was paid to the relationship between the old Corte Vecchia’s spaces and the functions. A flexible reuse of these spaces has been proposed, so as to accommodate various types of events that take place in the city, such as Mantovarchitettura and Mantova Festival della Letteratura. Furthermore, these spaces have been designed to be transformed over time based on society’s future needs. The proposed functions range from exhibition spaces, conference spaces, media rooms, to spaces dedicated to the various workshops. The design proposal aims to offer the city these spaces that for a long time have been unused. The latter have been designed to work autonomously, therefore detached from the museum complex, thanks to a new entrance that was created in Piazza Sordello.

Abstract
The latter have been designed to work autonomously, therefore detached from the museum complex, thanks to a new entrance that was created in Piazza Sordello.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
