This thesis is part of the EU-funded SIM project in the framework of WaterWorks2014 - Water Joint Programming Initiative and, similarly to the project, aims to develop an operational tool for real-time forecasting of crop irrigation needs in order to support water management and optimize irrigation planning by providing, in a static and dynamic way, the behavior of soil moisture at high spatial and temporal resolutions. For this purpose, the thesis evaluates the use of the assimilation of surface temperature and soil moisture data, implemented through a one-dimensional Kalman filter, for the analysis of the characteristics of a land cultivated with corn in Livraga (LO) and for the correction of forecasts of energy flows, soil moisture and surface temperature obtained through an hydrological model (FEST-EWB). The soil parameters were initially obtained by assimilating the surface temperature, then, once the parameters were found, the surface temperature was assimilated by correcting the latent heat flux and the soil heat flux, and the soil moisture updating the same humidity. For the correction of the estimates of hydrological simulations, observations from an eddy covariance station located in the field were used. Analyzes are also proposed with observations at different time steps to simulate a real data scarcity situation and to evaluate the reaction of the different variables and the usefulness of the assimilation process.

Abstract
Analyzes are also proposed with observations at different time steps to simulate a real data scarcity situation and to evaluate the reaction of the different variables and the usefulness of the assimilation process.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
