GenPlay is a virtual environment that has the goal of helping the children with autism to better socialize with their typically developed (TD) peers and understand their own body through the immersion in an abstract environment rich in colors and shapes. GenPlay exploits the paradigm of the Full Body Interaction to foster the social initiation and the collaboration in the ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders) children. The whole project was built with an eye focused on the special needs of such children. GenPlay has the purpose of being low-cost and portable. The module can be easily brought in the schools directly to the children and is totally affordable with the budget of an average school. GenPlay is built in Unity and is easily customizable. The solid software architecture allows the addition of new interactions with the minimum effort. Microsoft Kinect adds the motion and gesture recognition to the experience and makes the whole game fully interactive.
